Discover Brown University--online

Hey prospies. As us hip younguns know, lots of work is now done online, and Brown is no exception. I hope the sites I post below are hopeful. (I'm sure you've seen some of them before, but perhaps not.)

1. mocha.cs.brown.edu
This site is a student-created online guide to courses offered at Brown. Most of the courses here at Brown are offered in either the fall or the spring, with the exception of some of the super-popular or prerequisite classes. There are also some unique classes offered by Graduate students (such as some of the English classes) which appear for a year or two and never appear again. Either way, as a student here at Brown, you will encounter a catalog of approximately 1000 classes to pick from each semester, 500 of which will likely have few to no prerequisites.

2. www.thecriticalreview.org
This site allows you to look up the course evaluations teachers given. The evaluations are compiled into both a qualitative description of the course and a series of numerical evaluations (wherein 1 is a great score, and 4 is the worst possible. In my experience 1-1.5 is good, 1.5-2 is alright, and 2-3 is bad, but profs with this score should not be dismissed out of hand, as there may be a reason why so many students didn't like the prof, and you might still want to "shop" the class during the first two weeks of the semester when students are allowed to add/drop classes ad infinitum

3. mycourses.brown.edu
Hit the "log in as a guest link" to get access to the courses that allow guests to log in. Explore profs' sites; syllabi will often be posted online, giving you a sense of the course.

4. http://www.brown.edu/webmaster/calendar/
See what's going on on campus.

5. http://www.browndailyherald.com/
Brown's campus newspaper.

6. http://brown.dailyjolt.com/
Another list of what's going on on campus, including the parties which will not, of course, be listed on the university's calendar.

7. http://www.brown.edu/Facilities/Faci...ement/maps.php
Various maps of the campus.

8. http://brown.dailyjolt.com/last_call...s_edition.html
A random compilation of the "best classes at Brown." I put the term in quotes because this list is by no means exhaustive.

9. http://www.ivygateblog.com/.
Funny blog about all the Ivies covering sports, accomplishments of each school, and famous speakers who visit the Ivies, among other things. Above all, the blog highlights the fact that no matter how hard you try to escape them, ******bags and disgustingly stupid people will always be a part of life. Even at the Ivies. Especially at the Ivies.
