First of all, there is no pre med major at Brown or at most other schools. Brown does have PLME, Program in Liberal Medical Education which guarantees you admission to their medical school when you apply as a freshman. A handful of other schools have programs similar to PLME. To get into Brown, like any other elite school you need stellar grades/SAT scores and extracurriculars. There is no exact combination of the above that will make you a shoo in

Brown Admission: Facts & Figures
Brown Program in Liberal Medical Education

Admissions rate to PLME is approx. 5% which is significantly lower than admissions to Brown as a whole which was 14% for the class of 2011 but may be lower for class of 2012 since there were a record number of applicants this year.

Look at the websites of the schools you're interested in. You'll find a lot of the info you are seeking.

Shameless thread hijacking: Are the majority of students who are considering med school in Brown on the PLME, or are there a large number of students who go the normal undergrad-apply to med school route from Brown?

so according to the numbers for the class of 2011
96 students in the year
57% are from PLME

from what I've heard, though, they're trying to reduce that percentage (I'm not sure whether that means a smaller PLME program or a larger med school class...does someone else here know?)

Sorry, ambiguous question. I meant do a lot of students who are undergrad at Brown and not PLME apply to med school? And to the original poster: from what I understand, it's about twice as hard to go PLME at Brown as it is to go the normal route to Harvard. Brown itself is not one of the harder ivy league schools, but still an ivy league school. Admission is pretty random. I'll be applying there too next year, and hoping for the best. Maybe if you post your stats in the "chances" forum, you'll get some more concrete answers.
