Received from Dean of Admission

Has anyone received a letter from the Dean after you sent in additional material to update your application since the deferral from the early decision?

S received a letter from his Admission officer with a nice handwritten note. Brown's Admission office has always impressed me.

I was deferred and I sent in my mid-year report (like in early March), but I haven't heard back. I highly doubt Brown accepts me. Even though it is my top choice, I wouldn't mind that much, as I was just accepted by BC CSoM Honors.

I didn't really have any supplemental information to send in, and foolishly kept putting off a letter that I wanted to write to the admissions board. You know, just to let them know that I was keeping busy with the activities I talked about in my application and that I still was sure that Brown was THE place for me, and remained my No.1 no matter what.

Now, after a wait list decision from both Northwestern and Duke last night, I am really regretting not getting around to updating the committee with anything past my mid-year report. Hopefully that speaks enough for me in terms of academics... But I don't think Monday is going to turn out to be flowers and rainbows for me.

I sent my supplemental material to the Dean maybe that's why he responded to my letter.

I was also deferred and sent in supplemental material in mid-February to both the Dean and my rep and got a letter from the Dean a few days later...I hope Monday's a good day!

Do you think the letter from the Dean is a generic one?

Does your letter says something like "Thank you for your recent letter reaffirming your strong interest in Brown. As I noted in my December 13th letter to you, we will thoroughly review your application again in the next sereval weeks, and in the interim I hope you will feel free to provide us with any new information you feel will be helpful to us in our evaluation. Thank yu again for writing, thank you for your continuing interest in Brown, and please accept my best wishes for a successful and enjoyable close to your high school career."

ivyboy711 - Yes, my son was deferred. His letter has the same language as the letters noted in this thread. The handwritten note referred to specific information in my son's letter. I don't see this as either a positive or negative; simply Brown being classy, that's all.

My d received an acknowledgement letter from a Dean (not sure which one) after sending in additional material. She was deferred ED.
