Two years ago Brown took no one off the waitlist, last year there were some waitlist acceptees. It really depends on how many students were accepted and the matriculation rate.

There are numerous other threads on CC about getting off the waitlist, so I'd read those. Definitely write a letter, update with anything new, give information that was not in your application. If you had an interview, you could talk to that alum -- some alums do have connections with admissions (although most don't). Sometimes guidance counselors can call and make a case.

But then, you have to move on, fall in love with another school. Because honestly, the chances of getting in are slim.

Last year my daughter was waitlisted at Brown and called off the waitlist in JUNE. She ended up going and loves it there.. but it made for a very long college application process. I remember reading these boards and seeing quite a few kids called off the waitlist. They seemed to be accepted a few at a time. You can probably go back and read the old thread. Good luck to all of you!!

Do any of you happen to know what is the acceptance rate for waitlisted for the past few years?

I believe Brown University had around 500 people accepting their waitlist offer and around 50 people were granted an offer to be admitted.

Does Brown university have a common data set?

Brown Admission: Facts & Figures

These two links should get you some info. I can't find Common Data Sets per se.

Getting waitlisted feels like you're in a gray area. You don't know if you're getting accepted or rejected.

wait listed...

I've got a question! Can I submit my 500 deposit for another school, while waiting for Brown? And is it cheating if I got off from the waiting list, went to Brown, left that school's freshmen pool? I really got complicated in this issue, as an international student of this year.

That is perfectly ok. That is how the waitlist works. You will not get your deposit back however.
