well my year they announced may 9th and had decisions out the 16th. I'd imagine it would only take a week this year to. I would guess (with absolutely no reason to believe I'm right) that they will know a week from today if they are taking people (i.e. the 19th) and that by the 26th you will have decisions.

Regions

Is a number of students at my high school are declining Brown admission for HYP, does that increase my chance of being accepted off the waitlist any more than it would if they were scattered around the country? I guess I am asking if Brown has any known regional quota system.

I hope not. I'm pretty sure they don't need any more students from the westside of Los Angeles.

Ok, I got an e-mail this morning from a woman in the Alumni Relations Department. She talked to the Admissions Department and told me this:

"The plan late last week was that the admission office would take about
10 students off the waitlist - - far fewer than expected - - though when
I called this morning I was told that they will likely admit more than
that, since so many of the most highly selective schools are going to
their waitlists in a fairly major way (Harvard alone plans to take over
150 off their waitlist). So, in the short term (next week or two)
Brown plans to admit a small number of students (larger than 10 but no
word yet on exactly how many) and to hold on to a group in case they
need to admit more as this process unfolds. I expect that Brown (like
lots of other colleges out there...) will end up going to their waitlist
more than this first round."

So it's not great news, but at least they're definitely GOING to the waitlist and the situation may improve depending on other waitlists (which are looking good.)

Just wanted to keep everyone in the loop.

Additionally, the information about "60 more students being admitted" was misinterpreted. Everyone's been talking in this thread about how they're taking more students because they had too high a yield. In reality, Dean Miller said that they had to have 60 more students than they had originally intended TO HAVE A FULL CLASS, not because they had overload. It's simply because somebody made the decision that Brown needed a larger freshman class next year, so they have to make sure those spots are filled (either by original acceptees or waitlistees.)

So that's where we stand.

Thank jeebus! That is great news, OH-Hai. How do you think they'll contact the admitted students? I hope it's over the phone or e-mail rather than snail mail. The user who applied in 2005 said that his or her class recieved decisions via mail.

Thank God

I was so relieved when I heard Brown was accepting waitlistees! I am really optimistic about it.

I definitely hope they decide to take more than 10. Even if they take 30, that's still only a 6% chance (assuming only 500 people did indeed accept a spot on the waitlist). But any chance is better then none!!! This is really good news!

Just a word of encouragement... Although we never planned on getting waitlisted, we've made it this far out of an original applicant pool of thousands. Now, out of this group of a couple hundred (perhaps less than 500), there are outstanding candidates who will get accepted. Best of luck to everyone and may the best candidates win.
