I want to major in econ at Brown, and I was wondering if there was any good programs at Brown, especially for business, econ, or finance. Any help is welcome. Thanks

there's a program called COE that covers that.

If you are looking for a super preprofessional business school, Brown's probably not a great fit.

to clarify, 100% of brown students get into one of their top three choices for business school and goldman sachs is the single greatest employers of brown seniors.

you just don't explicitly study "business" as a brown undergrad (mostly because "business" isn't a real academic subject)
instead, brown has this amazing, extremely well-funded Commerce, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship (COE) program that teaches you how to apply the liberal arts as an entrpreneur. The program funds students for international internships, sets students up with prominent business mentors, and comes with all kinds of extra bells and whistles

Can I do Applied Mathematics - Finance Track + Computer Science + COE? I am interested in pursuing Operations Research or Financial Engineering in grad school.

It'd be nearly impossible to concentrate in all three of those things-- even getting the AB in Com Sci you're looking at like 54 courses. Even 5 years with 5 courses a semester wouldn't cover that many classes.

And you'll probably also find that concentrating in all of those things is completely unnecessary as opposed to just having some knowledge of some of those subjects. Our comp sci department is just not going ot teach you how to code-- they're going to teach you computer science. Coding is very useful for doing hte kind of math advanced research in these areas requires, computer science is not.

Could you please recommend a major for financial engineering preparation? COE + Applied Mathematics? and take 1 or 2 courses in Computer Science?

i think that's probably along the lines of what jason (modest) is suggesting. but you may even find that COE + math courses + comp sci courses will do ya for.

this may be a good question to email a dean / advisor at brown about "i'm looking at brown, wondering if it may be a good place for me, here's what i want to do, how can i do that at brown?" sorta thing

and to answer your question about my statement, it's because Brown isn't a preprofessional business school. It's a learning-focused liberal arts school. There aren't any accounting or finance or marketing majors here -- explicity -- But to quote a very smart dean I once knew at Tulane, which had a business school, to go to business school is to waste a sharp mind. and to waste a sharp mind is a sin. find a discipline of learning that you love and study it, then get your MBA.
