transfer sophomore year?

hey there,

so, i'm a freshman at dartmouth/brown reject. i've been pretty ambivalent about how i feel about dartmouth for a while, and i think im starting to realize i'd be a lot happier at a place like brown. it's purely a matter of the social scene. i'm sick of feeling like the only people i can relate to here are the ones who don't "fit in," who complain about how dartmouth is misogynistic and fratty and homophobic. i didn't want to go to a school to ***** about how its social scene sucks, no matter how great of an education i'm getting (and that is a big redeeming factor).

i've got stellar grades so far, i'm incredibly active in extracurricular stuff, and i'd get some great prof recs -- i figure i've got a good a shot as anyone if i tried to transfer. only problem is, i didn't realize i'd want to do this in time to apply, and now, if i'm gonna go through with it, it looks like i'd matriculate junior fall.

does that seem like a waste of time? i feel like junior year is really late to be switching schools, making a whole new set of friends and vying for recognition in a school's academic system (you know, research fellowships and theses and all that crap). have any of you brown students met students who transferred their sophomore year? do they have trouble "fitting in," having come into the game so late?

also, as a side note, anyone know what financial aid is like for transfers? im getting a full ride here at dartmouth since im pretty poor... could i expect something comparable?

first semester you might have to transition but you'll be alright. we had a sophomore transfer from dartmouth this past fall who came in as a sophomore.

finaid was worse for transfers because they put us into the highest loan bracket but now that the policy has changed to "no loans" for families under 100k you should get good aid. you might have to pay a few thousand per year but that's not much more than a junior college.

wait, you mean that you had someone who applied as a freshman to transfer and came in as a sophomore? or someone who applied as a sophomore and is spending an extra year getting his degree?
