Open Curriculum Explained, and no, Brown has not had that reputation since the mid to late 80s. That was simply an initial feeling about the Open Curriculum because it was so new and radical that there was push back amongst elitist. It has long since proved itself and that sense that Brown is any less rigorous comes simply from artifacts of that initial push back, typically amongst high school students going to UChicago because they didn't get into Brown. That last line was largely a joke, but has a hint of truth to it because these attacks typically do come from high school students who are going to attend places with rigorous cores and defend that decision by assuming that a rigorous core is necessary for a rigorous learning experience.
