Some bad news for waitlistees

At the installment of the new Bruin Club e-board, Dean of Admissions Jim Miller said our yield this year was quite high and that there may be as many as 60 students more than anticipated in this year's freshman class.

WHAT! Columbia apparently started admitted loads of students off their waitlist a few days ago!! (as luck would have it I wasn't one of them but...) I was expecting them to at least go to the waitlist if other ivies were having yield problems!!!

We've had more students decide to come than we can hold with waitlist admits in the past so I'm not really sure whether this means they're anticipating high numbers post waitlist admits or before, but those were his words. He didn't say anything about the waiting list, just that the yield was quite high, quite a bit more than they expected.

ADOCH coordinators and tour guides were being congratulated and he said they did "A good job, maybe too good." and went on to say the rest kind of off-handedly.

Don't take it as gospel, but it's not looking like we'll have a large number of waitlist students this year.

Well, if it makes anyone feel better, while I did confirm my spot for the class of 2012, I may be taking a gap year, so there's one empty seat...

There are also a few others on the FB group thinking about gap years

Ughhhh............................................ .........

So is there pretty much no chance that Brown is going to the waitlist? Or is the expected number of people admitted from the waitlist very low?

Manders, it looks to me like at least the latter, and depending on confirmations of students going on leave, abroad, off-campus, etc, it may be the former.

Thanks, modestmelody! I suppose I don't have to be totally pessimistic.
