Gay Pride?

How is Brown in terms of acceptance of its gay students? And would you say the students are accepting as well as the school itself?

thanks as always for creating a welcoming atmosphere, jason

i, on the other hand, will answer your question

Brown is a great school for gay students, it's very accepting and so is the school itself. there are a lot of clubs, parties, activities, etc.

Brown and every student I've met is extremely accepting toward gay students. The gay social scene is also very strong, with parties almost every weekend.

is the gay scene overwhelming at all? i know that at some schools, supposedly most of the guys are gay and the gay scene is disproportionately vocal compared to other groups. is that true for brown or is it a lot more diverse?

Brown is no Vassar--probably only 15% of guys are gay and 5% bi.
I don't think what you describe is something to worry about at Brown..
For example, the highest profile party of the year (SexPowerGod) is put on by the Queer Alliance, but a lot of non-LGBTQ people go the event.

ah ok that sounds fine then. i just wouldn't really want to be anywhere where there is a huge majority of any one thing. (though it sounds like the majority at brown are straight, but that's gonna be like at most colleges anyway, so...oh well i guess :-/)

also my friend (who is a girl) is gay and i've been trying to convince her to apply to brown! she's thinking about it (yay) but she wants to go to a school where they'll be plenty of girls to date for once (we seriously don't know any gay or bi girls at our high school, strangely.) so she was wondering what the percentage of gay and bi girls is at brown. similar to the guys?

There are quite a few gay/bi girls at Brown, but not as large a percentage as the guys.. Maybe 5-7% of girls are attracted to girls.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me.

ah, ok, i'll tell my friend that. that's probably a larger percentage than at most places (except maybe sarah lawrence?), right?
