Cell phone coverage

I'm going to be a freshman at Brown in the fall. What's the best/most reliable cell phone provider to have up in Providence?

Verizon. I had T-mobile before, and I often lost signal because I live out of town. In town, most anything should be ok though.

My son said his T-Mobile worked during ADOCH -- on campus.

I've never heard anyone with Verizon (including myself) ever having a dead zone. At least this past year. AT&T also seems to be pretty decent: T-Mobile I've heard some friends complain about.

The conventional wisdom is that AT&T has the best coverage, because the apparently have a tower up on Barus and Holley (or is it the Sci Li?). Also, FWIW, new subscribers get a 5% discount when they sign up with a Brown ID at the AT&T store at Providence Place.

AT&T has great coverage in the middle of campus. I've had some issues with no coverage at the VW and in Wooley, but I don't know how much of that was my cheap old phone, how much of that was the location, and how much of that was the phone company. I know before matriculating, my parents did research and came to the conclusion that AT&T would be best. I haven't heard any complaints about Verizon, though, and several of my friends use them. (In the end, AT&T is better for me because their Pay as you go plan is more suitable to me than Verizon's due to their texting packages.)

I had AT&T and was fine. Sometimes reception in the V-dub was bad, but that seemed to happen to everyone.

AT&T definitely. TMobile is OK, and Sprint/Verizon suck hard inside some buildings. That said I was with sprint because my family got a huge discount

By the way, with the student advantage card you get a nice discount with T-mobile. From what I hear it's not as good as AT&T, but I hope it will be okay.

Does anyone here use the iPhone over AT&T? If yes, what is the overall quality of the package like?

P.S. I would love to purchase the new iPhone when I get to Brown!

Many students use the iPhone, through AT&T.

Verizon coverage used to be particularly bad, but it has gotten better in the last couple years.
