pre-law & accepted last year, but transfer this year

how is pre-law at bryn mawr? i'm also interested in anthro/soc and econ, and was wondering how those courses are? any good?

i actually got accepted last year as a first-year but couldn't enroll because of financial aid issues. i couldn't reach them at all so nothing was resolved. but i think i may try to transfer...if financial aid works out. i was wondering what my chances are of getting accepted, again.

thanks so much for your help! i'm really just looking forward to getting out of colgate!

I should think you had good chances of getting reaccepted, but I know that one tends to warm up to a school more when one has more time. I hated it here for two weeks, and now, it's steadily getting better. Be sure you want to transfer before you take that huge step.
Anyway, I'd love to see you as part of my class if you do come!

wow i just transferred from bryn mawr to colgate! i also just heard about a girl from colgate that transferred to bryn mawr this year...haha i guess they're schools that exchange a lot of students.

some of my friends took anthro and sociology at bryn mawr last year and they loved it. in general (and i know people say this i lot, but i really believe it), almost all the teachers at bryn mawr are amazing. after coming to colgate, i really miss them and have come to appreciate them a lot more. it's because of the classes at bryn mawr that i would want to transfer back there...the type of students and professors that bryn mawr have are superior to most ive ever seen. not to say colgate professors aren't smart...i just think the ones at bryn mawr knew how to teach more than some of the ones here at colgate. i think ud have a good chance of getting into bryn mawr if you got in the first year. they accepted you cause they believed you would fit in and like it there, so unless ur grades are horrible at colgate, u shouldnt have much of a problem.

fyi, the financial aid i got to colgate was better than the aid i got at bryn mawr. i think colgate is known for giving really good aid...bryn mawr's not great, but they try.

i knew two seniors last year who were pre-law. i dont really know much about the program or how they felt about it cause i really dont like government and debating and all that...but they both absolutely loved bryn mawr, the tri-co, being able to take classes at upenn, and all their classes. i guess that says something.

i know econ is supposed to be really good here at colgate. i took into to econ at bryn mawr and i really didnt like my teacher...he was nice but he reminded me of teachers here who know so much they dont know how to teach what we actually need: the basics. he was just a visiting professor though...they took him out of retirement for a semester haha. i had friends that were econ majors though and they loved the department.

if you're really serious about transferring and want to talk about bryn mawr i'd be happy to talk with u! i really didnt know if i wanted to come to colgate and i was freaking out up until i sent my deposit...and well after. im still not sure if i made the right decision, but it's only been about a month and a half.

Anthro/soc are good departments at BMC. I don't think economics is quite as strong, but it may be better than Colgate -- I don't know anything about the department there.

Pre-law advising at BMC is shared with Haverford, and it could use some improvement. Graduates go to a wide range of law schools. Again, I can't tell you whether it's better or worse than Colgate. Neither school is particularly well represented at the top law schools compared to Williams, Amherst, Swat, or Wellesley. If this is important to you, you should investigate the resources available at Colgate and get an idea of how much expert guidance and support pre-law students get.
