Making films while at Bryn Mawr?

Bryn Mawr does not offer any film production courses -- any Bryn Mawr students out there finding a way to work on some films through other means?

Swarthmore offers a basic two-semester film production sequence through their Film and Media Studies department. Penn's Cinema department offers more in-depth courses. This current academic year, they are offering the following production courses:

Video I
Video II
Documentary Video
Cinema Production
Cinematography
Screenwriting
Advanced Screenwriting
Computer Animation
Mixed Media Animation
Advanced Projects in Animation

Penn is a bit of a hike, but I have immensely enjoyed my (science) classes there!

I was just thinking that it would be tough to work on a collaborative project when a commute is involved.

I was hoping that perhaps some Bryn Mawr students do things independently since formal classes are not offered - I checked and Haverford doesn't seem to have much going on in this area either.

I am not aware of any film production opportunities at Bryn Mawr, but I am not active in the arts area.

I agree that the commute is inconvenient but it can be done. I have been at Penn 4-5 days a week this semester, 2 days for classes and 2-3 days to work and socialize with classmates. Penn is easier to commute to than Swarthmore. There is a train into Philly every 10-30 minutes, depending on the time of the day. That's more frequently than the Blue Bus runs to Haverford and definitely more convenient than the once-every-90-minutes van to Swarthmore.

I would like to point out that Penn classes start a week earlier than Bryn Mawr classes in the spring. If your D is marginally interested in classes at Penn, she could return early from winter break and attend the first week of classes at Penn without losing her options to take classes at Bryn Mawr. If she does not like them, she can attend her Bryn Mawr classes the next week.

I just saw that Haverford is offering a class called "Documentary Film and Approaches to Truth" next semester. (It is listed under Independent College Programs.) The course description says that it has a video production and editing component. Maybe something to look into.

Ooops, for whatever reason I assumed your D was a current student at Bryn Mawr. Now I realized she probably isn't. Please ignore my last post!
