I'd say your chances are not good here. BU is so competitive for admission.

I hope the former did not intimidate you enough not to apply. I'd say your chances were decent if anything. I thought it would be a long shot for me to get in with my stats, but I did. 3.8 GPA unweighted, mediocre SATs, excess of 12 graduating credits (22 required, will receive 34), half AP/IB/H curriculum, amazing essays and 2 outstanding teacher recommendations, 1 decent rec., no class ranking, fair involvement in E.C.s (president 1, vice president 2), no athletic activity (though I am athletic ;]), plenty of volunteer work, and no work experience.

I'll stand by my opinion rather than be patronizing. Don't interpret that opinion as ill will or intimidation, and be sure good luck is being extended.

Clearlly your class rank with a "modestly rigourous courseload" would seem to fail to reflect your intellectual capability. Perhaps there's an explanation for that that would enhance your case. I'm confident you are sufficiently capable of receiving the opinions you've requested without being intimidated. Any other response would provide a clear indication of your own inherent belief if BU would be the best place for you. Again good luck.

low probability of getting accepted, but your SAT is good

MY D got waitlisted from BU last year with what I thought was pretty good stats, ( 1310/2010 SAT, 95% GPA, top 5%, 5's on AP"s, 2 team sports and class officer, editor of newspaper, other clubs and comm service and working 12 plus hrs a week at supermkt) the competition is very fierce at these academic elite colleges.........Her good friend with similar stats but SAT 20 pts higher was accepted..
Don't worry...you will get accepted into the right school for you... My daughter is a very happy freshman at Boston College and couldn't imagine herself anywhere else

Excellent counsel.

Goingtobebroke ...(love/hate your screen name Like lookin' in the mirror!) ... what's your insight re: your dd vs her friend. Was it a crummy 20 SAT points? Somehow they judged girl #1 is merely super, and girl #2 as a bit more so ... and will have a positive impact here in Bisonland. #1 no, #2 yes.") Hard to imagine their NOT taking your dd. I'll bet she's killing them @ BC.

Thanks whistle pig.....What we learned was that college admissions is such a crap shoot.... My DD had those 5's on the AP's and her friend got 3's and a 4 ( same AP's), other wise they were basically neck and neck. Her friend is a super kid as well.
I am kinda glad she was rejected at BU, as she applied to 11 colleges, accepted at 8 ( merit$ at 3), W/L at 3 ( we declined the W/L's), and it was very hard for her to narrow it down ( esp with merit money on the table). We ultimately told her to pick the college of her dreams, not to let money enter in the picture, so she picked the most expensive and the most prestigious college. So, I am not really going to be broke anymore but plum broke...

Like I said college admissions are so unpredictable.....I am glad we are so over this process
