There are some students who don't care about anything other than getting drunk, but I'd guess you'd find that at other schools. Some students are pretty thick headed which detracts from the intellectual atmosphere. Some intro classes are a bit of a joke. But other than that, I like Bucknell.

You pretty much hang out with the people in your hall, unless you happen to know a frat brother or bring a million girls with you to a party.

Hanging with your friends isn't boring unless frat parties are the only way you can have fun. There are events which are sponsored by the University on the weekends, and there's a mall/theater in Selingsgrove.

Hey, does anyone know if students do outdoor activities, like hiking, rock-climbing, sailing, or winter stuff? My sister graduated from Dartmouth and liked their DOC, Dartmouth Outing Club.
Do many Bucknell students do those sorts of things too?

Bucknell has an outing club, fittingly called BOC (Bucknell Outing Club). They have regular (almost weekly) trips--white water rafting, hiking in the woods, etc. There is a fee to go on these trips, but it's quite small. $8 for a semester, $15 for a year, and 35$ for "lifetime." The fee's to cover for transportation and equipment and such.
There is also a climbing club, but I personally have never gone on their trips so I can't say anything about it.
For winter stuff, there is at least one skiing trip ACE hosts each year, and all students are invited to go. I'm not sure, but I *think* a skiing team was trying to be formed this year. I don't know if that went successfully.
I don't think there's any sailing going on, but there is a men's club crew team, as well as a varsity women's crew team.

To answer the topic's original question, I also agree that cost is what prevents me from completely loving Bucknell. There is also the obvious stench of liberalism among faculty and staff, but I think you can find that at most other colleges and universities. Late fall, winter, and early spring are kinda annoying to get through since it gets pretty cold here, but you learn to toughen up with that.

we do have an outing club with minimal fees for membership. sometimes there is an additional cost for things like white-water-rafting or longer trips--there was a spring break trip to Utah, $200 for each spot. they do a lot of neat things; i'd recommend it. they also do things like spelunking, kayaking i believe, and plan skiing trips as well.
and as far as i know, the ski team was successful in terms of attracting members. i know plenty of active members on the team and more people who would like to join next year.
there isn't really any sailing at all going on, but rowing is really popular, not that it makes up for the wonderful art of sailing...
