Residences for freshman......

ok so i just got into Bucknell and i'm so psyched to be going there...but there is one thing that always bothers me, i love to play loud music in my room... is there a residence hall in which would be perfect for me and one that would be good for me to avoid??

example: residences in which the most parties are thrown or quiet residences.....

You can't choose which hall you live in freshman year. There are designated "Quiet Halls" that you can request to live on, but all other halls follow quiet hours. On weeknights, quiet hours start at 11 PM, and on weekends, they start at 2 AM. Hope that helps!

Chances are you'll be in a double as well, so loud music probably isn't an option.

well, I hear larison is loud in general. on the survey, when i did it, believe there was an option for preferring a roommate that wouldn't mind you playing music on speakers. in mcdonnell, if your roommate isn't there, you can play really loud music; it's impressively hard for your neighbors to hear through the walls... unless you have a raging bass system. that's a different story.

I have friends who live in Larry Cottage, and the walls are soooooo thin. You can hear conversations in surrounding rooms pretty clearly.

can anyone comment on how much laundry costs?

Washing and drying cost both $1.00 per cycle. You have to deposit money into what is known as your campus dollars account. You can then use these campus dollars for your laundry by swiping your Bucknell ID card through a terminal located in the laundry room (we recently stopped using quarters for laundry). Also, you can view what washers and dryers are currently being used and how much time is left online at laundryview.com. All the information is real time, so you don't need to refresh your browser every minute.

Bathrooms are probably shared by 10-15 people.

this may be a dumb question, but are there enough showers for all or do you often have to wait for your turn?

There are probably ten or fifteen girls sharing three showers on my hall. The only time I have ever had to wait for a shower was after Color Wars during Orientation (and if you come to Bucknell, you'll know why!).

You generally don't have to wait to get in the shower since not everyone has the same class times as you. If you do end up waiting and you have to be somewhere, then you can just go to a shower on a floor above/below.
