Downloading from the internets & torrents usage

Hello guys. I know this is a popular question, so can anybody tell me how strict Bucknell's policies on downloading stuff are? Is it safe to download music and movies from different websites (including foreign ones) and/or use torrents on campus? I mean, without seeding, uploading, and sharing anything. Do they monitor everything or pretty much overlook that sort of stuff? Can they check our laptops, or worse, erase HDs? And yes, I know it's illegal but I'm still curious. If you don't want to discuss it here please feel free to PM me
Cheers

Library and Information Technology monitors how much you are downloading from outside of Bucknell's network and if you exceed a certain limit your internet suddenly becomes super slow.

Thanks! Do you know what the limit is? And for how long it becomes "super slow"?

From my experience, BU's also made torrenting speed really slow or just non-existent. LIT's been able to block most torrenting processes. Although... I will say that, according to my computer science and engineering friend who just graduated, there is a way around that--that's if you can get a hold of a Bucknell engineering computer, which has virtually unrestricted internet.

Thanks guys! 10GB for three days sounds fair enough. Good there's this tool reporting bandwidth usage, only it doesn't seem to work at the moment..

It doesn't work unless you're actually on the Bucknell network...
