UCI has an excellent Econ program, more like a LAC than a research program.

wow, that's a stacked list. If you were to place Dartmouth into one of those five groups (you have it listed under LAC), which one would it most likely fall into? I'm just asking because till date its been my #1 school, but i want to major in econ (undergrad), so if it does not have a strong program I'll have to find a replacement.

Can't speak for Dartmouth. But I'd like to say something about Northwestern. I took 3 classes in their econ department and they were all pretty good--good profs and lectures. My friends with econ degrees were all gainfully employed and four of them that applied to MBA programs after few years of work went to Harvard, MIT, Kellogg, and INSEAD. The Northwestern team also just won the national championship of College Fed Challenge two years in a row. http://www.chicagofed.org/education_...he_program.cfm |

Axman, all the schools I mentioned above are excellent in Economics, including Dartmouth. If you love Dartmouth, you will not be disapointed with its Economics offerings. Very generally speaking, the main difference between the LACs and the research programs is the size of their faculties and therefore, the variety of courses they can offer.

who gives a ****?
it doesnt matter.
just go to a good school you like.......... good schools tend to have good econ programs..............it's only undergrad, most classes u take stop at the 500 level. UChicago vs William and Mary, not a huge difference.

Chicago and UPENN are the best schools for economics within reach. i mean you can go into the MITs and what not but those are so hard to get into that its not even worth talking about.
if you get into eaither of those two schools you are golden

well of course it is a huge reach. i'm just saying that schools like Harvard and MIT shouldnt really be put into the equation because those are so far fetched and unrealistic.
