My son is looking at small achool under 10,000....have any ideas for smaller business schools for finance.

Some possibilities (for undergraduate business--and all of these have finance departments):

Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.)

Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia) (it has 12,000 students total, but 2,000 are located at the Oxford College campus 30 miles away)

College of William and Mary (Williamsburg, Virginia)

Pepperdine University (Malibu, California)

Bentley College (Waltham, Massachusetts)

Symui, I believe that Babson would definitely be a top school for one looking to study entrepreneurship, but as cheezwhiz said, her son is interested in finance and Bentley would be the better school for that, IMO.

Get your facts straight, Babson is known for entrepreneurship not Finance.

Dawgie, I believe that's what everyone here is trying to say. No one's arguing that Babson isn't known for entreprenuership. Still, Babson has an all around great business school, including their finance department. When it comes to business, Babson is certainly elite in its field.

I know what they are saying, and I was reinforcing Freestyla's point that Bentley is better for Finance. Bentley specializes in Accounting and Finance, while Babson is known for its entrepreneurship.

Dawgie you are wrong. I don't know why but people on this forum always say that Bentley is better in finance and accounting. Go to the school websites and look at the job placement statistics. Babson has two times more recruiting opportunities, including finance and accounting.

Even though the general business week ranking is largely based on student surveys, which I think is WRONG, the individual ranking of the business filed is ranked by industry professionals and companies so it is more or less close to the reality. (At least closer than students opinions.)

You may say that rankings suck, ok I agree they do, but they at least create the general image.

and for those who completely hate rankings, I recommend looking at the job placement statistics, they are posted on schools websites, it is very easy you can do it!

Even though Bentley has 3-4 times more student body Babson still has much better reputation.

Bentley started as a school for accounting and finance. They not only have a strong finance program but also have graduate programs in finance and personal financial planning,which is NOT available through Babson. Bentley also has programs in information technology even acturarial science,which isn't available at Babson. Babson has concentration in quantitative finance that I don't think Bentley has as an undergraduate concentration. Bentley also has more majors and more choices since it is a bigger school. For example they have a number of programs for duel undergrad and MS programs or MS/MBA that Babson doesn't seem to have.

Babson is VERY entrepreneural based. Everything that they do is geared for this area. This is not true for Bentley,which may be business oriented but not necessarily entrepreneural oriented.

As for accounting jobs, I spoke with some recruiters from the Big 4 who said that they rate both schools about the same.

Bentley also has a fabulous trading room and a finance concentration that involves securities analysis.

Bottom Line: Both are very good. They do, however, have very different emphasis and a different culture. You really need to check out each school. Don't go by rankings or even what is said here, which is usually incorrect.

We plan on visiting both Babson, Bentley and Northeasterns. We are looking for a smaller school.
