Hey I'm going to Indiana University in the fall, and I was wondering what would be the most appropriate specialization.
I want a career in something that has to do with business development, strategy, organization, planning, or human resources.
So do you think a concentration in production/operations management, finance, marketing, or management in general would be most suitable for my future career.
Definitely management. Certainly you can get into these areas from other majors, and I'm normally not a huge fan of majoring in mgt but at a good school like Indiana you should be fine. I checked salaries and mgt majors at IU don't get paid all that much less than finance majors. I don't know the exact course curriculum at IU but I saw the business courses and it looks like they offer a wide selection of courses that will be useful to you..many of which will probably be in the mgt degree plan.
Be aware that there are two management majors at Indiana (Kelley), though--general management and entrepreneurship.
Based upon what you've written here, I'd say general management would be best for you--although I noticed that USNW ranked Indiana's entrepreneurship program as #1 for MBAs and #2 for undergraduates this year.
