Big 4 Internship Response Time

Hello All,

I am a junior Accounting/Finance double major looking for a summer internship. I am looking to intern at one of the large accounting firms in my area, including the "Big 4". Unfortunately, none of the "Big 4" participate in on-campus recruiting at my Universitty, so I instead have to submit my resume and cover letter through email. I feel some what disadvantaged though since I cannot make a personal impression, and I am relying on my resume which does not speak for my personality.

I have already submitted my resume to the local recruiters and tried to call to find out the rest of the process, but have yet to have any of my phone calls returned. I understand that the recruiters are all very busy on campus at this time so I was wondering if anyone could be of any help to me. I was wondering how long after submitting my resume that they would call to schedule an interview? Does anyone know if the Big 4 have started interviewing for the summer internship opportunity or are they still flipping through resumes?

Thanks!

The accounting firms look for their summer interns in the fall. Make sure you qualify for the internship before submitting your resume. If your GPA qualifies then that will get you a look. Campus recruiters know that a majority of interns won't have a lot of relevant work experience, but if you can display some skills that they are looking for from past jobs/internships then that will help.

When I was going through the interview process the firm that hired me didn't even come to my school and I had a 5 minute phone interview then they asked me to come to their office.

My cumulative GPA is a 3.36 and major GPA is a 3.5. I'll most likely get a 4.0 this semester so it will be even higher after semester. Would my GPA qualify?

I submitted a resume and cover letter to each of the Big 4 and have yet to hear anything at all back.

Good luck getting an internship! I'm in the same exact situation as you with no luck. I also applied to Grant Thornton, BDO, few other places and no reply from them either. I feel like all my efforts have been wasted. FML.

Has anyone had any in-office interview yet with any of the Big 4? I've seen some posts from last year from around October 20th or so where interviews were still going on. I'm getting a little paranoid since I haven't heard anything after submitting my resume and cover letter.

Here's a tip: Don't count on just the Big Four.

I applied at another large firm in my area as well. I'm really set on working for one of the Big 4 though.

Im in the same situation as you guys. I have a 3.8 Accounting GPA and a 3.6 Cumulative and I didn't even get an interview with the Big 4 but I know of people with lower GPA's and less work experience that already got office visits just because of Beta Alpha Psi. I also applied to all the other firms but have not heard anything yet. Really frustrating.

That must be very frustrating. I work 30 hours per week along with going to school full time. My day consists of school, work, then studying. It's very hard for me to participate in any extracurricular activities besides accounting club which I can attend in between classes. Quiting work is not an option since I pay for my schooling. As pompous as it sounds, I really feel as if they are missing out by not interviewing me. I have never called in at work in over 3 years and I have never been tardy. I also have very few mistakes, if any, and I'm very personable and outgoing. I'm not asking for them to hire me now, but at least give me a 15 minute interview to sell myself...

/end rant

I too was worried when I didnt hear back from the Big 4 firm I interviewed with this summer. I interviewed through a leadership program in May with one of the Big 4 firms and was told I would hear back by mid June. After countless emails with no response, I finally got a call in August saying I had gotten the job. Apparently they were moving different recruiters around. My experience with another Big 4 firm was completely different and I received a call only a week after. So definitely don't give up if you don't hear back right away. There's also tons of smaller firms that I looked at that really are looking for people and seem like a great work environment.

What do you mean by interviewing through the leadership program? Do you mean you were invited to take part in the SLP or they actually interviewed for full time?

This past year I applied to attend the leadership conferences for two of the big 4 firms. One was a national conference and one was for the region. Both required an on campus interview to be selected into the program. From there, at the regional conference I had office interviews with a manager, a partner, and HR. They were supposed to have gotten back to me in early june, and I didnt end up hearing that I had gotten the internship until late August. The national conference I attended and was called a week later to ask my thoughts on the conference and to confirm where I was interested in working. The following week I was called to say I had gotten the internship and would not have to go for any additional interviews.
