Villanova School of Business vs. University of Miami School of Business

Hello.

I have been accepted into both the Villanova School of Business and the University of Miami (FL) School of Business Administration. I am having trouble deciding which school to attend. I want to study finance. I live about 45 minutes away from Villanova, but have family down in Miami. At Villanova, I have been accepted into the Global Citizens Program, where I can study abroad in London second semester of freshman year, taking 10 weeks of classes and then a 6 week internship. This would be my first study abroad experience as I plan to study abroad later. I also wish to participate in an internship.

I just want to get other peoples opinions on the difference of the two schools on an academic standpoint, employment after school, internship oppurtunites, and preparation for graduate school, as I want to get my MBA.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

To be honest, if you really apply yourself to getting a job, there will not be all that much of a difference. Both are similarly rated schools, and what you accomplish while at school will matter most. Both are near large metropolitan areas, so they both have job opportunities as well. The opportunity at Nova sounds great, but may not matter all that much if you plan on studying abroad later.

Soo... verdict - visit the campuses / bschools and find which one feels right. College is not only about racking credentials its also super fun and you want to be somewhere that fits you.

Just my opinion of course.

I'd go with nova. It's closer to NYC and thus will have more alumni there who can help you out. Plus, Nova probably has more street prestige than Miami, and, despite a crummy tournament, a far superior basketball team.

As for reputation, it is about the same. A lot depends on where you want to live and work. If you want to work in Florida, go to Miami. If NY or Phily is your preference, you might be better off with Villanova. Personally, I would take Miami anyday whetherwise.

Villanova is absolutly the best choice. The business schools reputation crushes that of Miami, which is known for parties and football. It was ranked 11th in under grad b schools last year and 20th this year , and these statics are based on job placement, showing that Villanova knows how to get grads into jobs. The MBA program is ranks 18th in the US and 55th in the WORLD. The accounting program is by far the best, but alot of kids double major in finance and accounting, and Villanova really enables students to create thier own furutre. I have a friends who is a triple major ( finance, accounting, and econ) and another who is a double major with a minor and a co-major , all in the honors programs might I add. They offer excellent job placement (97% of grads have jobs at GRADUATION, excluding those opting for grad schools like Harvard, Notre Dame, and Columbia in this year's class) and most get great start up jobs at place like Ernest and Young, KPMG, Pricewater, and Johnson and Johnson. The Clay center organizes job opportunites and internships for students and companies recruit on campus. They offer interview training and resume building to both students and alumni and are constatnly updating network of notable alumni in the business realm. The Global Citizens Program is unique to Villanova and a freshman year internship in another country will look amazing on a resume or application. In short, Villanova will do anything to help thier student succeed.
