| Would a MBA be of any use for me?
So I'm not very knowledgeable of the MBA (which I guess is why I'm posting here).
I've been thinking of pursuing an MBA at some point in the future, but I don't know if I should, or can?
a) Why I want an MBA:
-I think it'll be easier for me to be hired in a management level position once I have some experience. I think I'll also command a higher salary. I also believe having a business degree will give me some skills and background to compensate for my crappy undergraduate degree.
b) My background:
-I graduated from a top university with a BA in History. It's a pretty useless degree and has no real market value. However, I'm currently working as an Operations Analyst at a Fortune 100 company. I'm planning to work here as long as I can as it's a great company.
c) Why I don't know if I should get an MBA:
-I don't know if it's necessary. I was only thinking of getting an MBA if, for instance, I get laid off or if I just somehow never get promoted to a manager level position. I'm not even sure how beneficial an MBA would be for me. Some managers in my company have an MBA, and some don't. I hear from a lot of people though that an MBA is necessary nowadays. I've also heard things like an MBA will make you overqualified. And lastly, I've heard things like an MBA is useless...haha.
So what do you guys think? I have a BA in a non relevant field + real work experience, but will a MBA actually have any benefit for me? Or would it just be another useless Masters degree?
*NOTE: I'm only considering MBAs from top schools. I wouldn't go to some crappy no name school for an MBA.
