MBA and SATs

Do SAT scores matter when you apply for an MBA program? I got a 1410 (with an 800 in math)...could this hurt me when applying to the top MBA programs such as harvard/stanford/NU?

GMAT is the standardized test for MBA schools (and in some cases, GRE is also permitted).

Check out this site for great info about the GMAT and MBA programs in general.

Doesn't matter for MBA admissions, but from what I hear, some firms as for your SAT scores when you apply for a job.

They do, but a 1450+ should be enough to get you an interview. After that, it'll be up to your abilities.

Pearfire, are you talking about getting an interview for an MBA program or about when you apply for a job? I've never heard of an MBA school asking for SAT scores.

Assuming you're talking about job interviews, my understanding (which admittedly is not great) is that a minority of companies ask for SAT scores... although it is rare if you are recruited from a top 15-20 MBA program. Can you expand on your response? Thanks!

P.S. Also, I'm an ACT person.

Yeah, what about people who only took ACTs? And since i got a 1410..which isn't a 1450+..should i like take the SATs over again or something? that seems so ridiculous!

Bipolarbear, what if you've never taken the SAT... and only the ACT?

Yes I was talking about job recruitment. It's not uncommon for investment banks to ask you for your SAT scores. If you don't have any, then just tell them your ACT scores. Recruiters are not complete idiots, .

Don't retake the SAT if you have a 1410. The 1450+ is not a rule but rather a guide. The problem is that the college students who get interviews/internships tend to be the better ones from the top schools. So in a way, they're "the better of the best". Getting a 1440 won't keep you out of the game, but a 1200 very well might! In general though, your SAT scores won't be as important as you might think, because they'll torture you through 2 interview rounds at IBs plus an intensive assessment center day.

I performed poorly on the ACTs, receiving a 25. I did not study diligently because I knew all I needed to get was somewhere around a twenty to be accepted to my school. I have a 4.0 through one year at a state school though. I was thinking I could put my nose to the grindstone on the GMAT in the spring of my junior year and use that, in addition to my high GPA, to convince recruiters of my quantitative skills. Is this a good idea, or should I retake the ACTs? I am not a very good standardized test taker, but I bet if I worked hard I could pull off a 30 or so. How many firms look at these scores? Is this current score going to blow my chances if I have a great academic record, valuable ecs, and a solid history of work experience (internships, part time jobs, etc.)?
