I am trying to apply to arch major next year.
I am a junior, and my grades are low as hell.
it is not even funny.

Well.. I know my grades are really low.. and that is what im worried about..
my SATI scores is not that good either its 1930.. T^T..
is there anyway for me to make architecture or Architecture engineering??
also how do they calculate GPA do they calculate like CSU?
cuz on my transcript, it says CSU GPA, and that is like the lowest..
my weighted avg is around 3.6 or 3.7, and unweighted is 3.33 and
CSU GPA is like 3.0=_=..
also do they need my portfolio?

Well I had like the EXACT same stats. A little higher even.
And I didn't get in for architecture.....

If you have under a 3.7 CSU gpa, and a 1200 SAT, you probably won't get in. They have a cut off that is REALLY competitive. They don't look at ec's much and they don't take portfolios. It's a cutthroat application process.

Look into University of Oregon! That's where I am going next year. They have a good B.Arch program! Or at least apply to a lot of places so you have quite a few options. I made that mistake thinking CP was a sure thing. But when one door closes another opens, and I got lucky. So make sure you apply to a lot of places and kick it into high gear next year!

Re-calculate your gpa using just your year end grades on a-g coursework, I think it's higher than you say it is. If you can finish this year solid and boost your SAT score you're a good prospect. Unfortunately it is a numbers game and will somewhat depend on what other applicants have. Jack didn't make the cut this year, but was very close.

1. Starting Monday go to your Calc and Art teachers and ask them what you need to do to improve your grades, then do it. Check with them again every week. Let them know you're motivated and willing to do whatever it takes. There really is not much time left.
2. Did you do any test prep for the SAT? If not, do that and take the SAT again, also take the ACT, some kids do much better on the ACT. Send the best score. Remember to test before the cutoff date for Cal Poly admissions.
3. Have you checked out CSUMentor ? It's the place that will explain what you need to get into Cal Poly.
4. No portfolio.
5. You can get a boost for Cal Poly if you take a summer job, even bigger boost if it applies to your intended major...

Being able to break down what it is that you need to do, and then pulling it off, will serve you well as an architecture major...

I know someone who applied (in 2006) to Cal Poly for architecture with a better GPA than you but a lower SAT1 score than you and she was rejected. Based on the information I'm getting from the Cal Poly's group on facebook, people who are getting accepted to Cal Poly's Architecture program have 4.0+ GPA and near 2000 SAT1 scores.

But don't listen to me because based on this years admissions, anything can happen.

they don't require a portfolio, but to be honest, your stats are too low for architecture. it does vary by each year.. but as each year goes on.. the stats of admitted students seem to raise. if i were you, i'd consider city and regional planning. it's in the arch department and it's not as hard to get into as arch. i got in with 3.95 gpa + jc courses, 26 ACT, 1710 SAT. from there, it'll be easier to switch into arch because you're already in the department.. but it's still kinda rough. but if you don't manage to switch, i don't think it'll be that bad. crp is a lot like architecture.. it's just more about the city design rather than building. i'm debating about whether or not i'm goin to even bother trying to switch into arch! i'm in crp and i just got back from open house and lovedd it! i plan on goin to grad school for arch anyways.. so i don't think i'm gonna bother.. but it's an option! you should definitely consider looking into it.. you might end up liking it!
