Racist school!

This school is the less diverse, most conservative, racist school I have visited. I am white and liberal, and I have not met such a racist town and school. After going to the bars, I hear racial women slurs. Walking around a neighborhood, I saw a confederate flag across from 1155 Murray apartment. Racist ****. In fact here is an incident that split the people of cal poly in half. Homophobic and racial comments was made in a Cal Poly Housing Party specifically the College of Ag. WORST, the school decided not to descipline the students. President Baker is racist as well since he was alongside the decision making of not disciplining the students who created this racist party! It is freedom of speech, but the school should some way discipline these students to show that these types of actions are not tolerated in this prestigious school

Sounds like someone who got rejected from the school.

I am white and liberal, and I have not met such a racist town and school.

Then you haven't really traveled much around the country.

It is freedom of speech, but the school should some way discipline these students to show that these types of actions are not tolerated in this prestigious school

First, you claim that it is freedom of speech, but in the next sentence, you claim that they should be disciplined. You might want to read some of the articles on the FIRE website regarding free speech as college campuses. As a public university, Cal Poly is bound by the first amendment:

N.C. State in Uproar Over Racist Messages in ?Free Expression Tunnel? - FIRE

However, even racist political speech that does not constitute a true threat (as was evidently the case here) is protected by the First Amendment, so N.C. State cannot legally punish the students involved.

Johns Hopkins University Suspends Student for One Year for 'Offensive' Halloween Invitation - FIRE

Hopkins should teach its students that the way we deal with speech we dislike in a free society is with more speech, not with severe and life-altering punishment.

Well the students were punished for one. They were all kicked out of the house, but they couldn't be expelled as explained in the other posts. But the greatest part of all was how the entire student body came together and condemned what those few students did. Dont call the entire school racist based on a couple of individuals.

wow this is the least homophobic school I've ever seen, in fact there are so many gay students and such a prominent gay club organization and population it gave me thoughts about not being gay, if you would be ostracized. I guess you aren't from the south, we are, and I can tell you this is progressive when you compare. I am a white liberal and my son is also and he got involved in cal poly dems who are pretty active, so I don't see so much racism as I am accustomed to in Virginia.

I think you just had a bad experience. Yes, Cal Poly is no the most racially diverse school, but most people are very accepting of others. As far as conservativeness, yeah there are a decent amount of conservatives, but there are also quite a few liberals. I'd say it's about 50/50.
