So I just sent in the app to Cal Poly SLO

I put in Environmental Management & Protection as my major because it sounded interesting and was wondering just how competitive it is.

I have a 3.4 GPA with some AP classes and a 1740 SAT (going to take it one more time.) I have plenty of EC's, had a part time job and I'm an eagle scout. I also go to a private school, which apparently is taken into account according to my counselor. How much of a chance so you guys think this app has? Any info given would be much appreciated!

Im pretty sure thats a less competitive major so I think you have a ok chance if you can raise the SATs it would look a lot better

Other than being in-state or out-of-state, it apparently doesn't make a difference where an applicant is located.

"Cal Poly does not give priority to applicants in the Central Coast region, and only 9 percent of the current student body is from the Central Coast region. More than half of the current student body comes from the San Francisco or Los Angeles areas."

If the CSUs follow the UCs, and I don't think they have much choice, there will be a significant increase in out of state admissions. That's why I asked.

Did you apply ED? As stated in other threads, that can improve your chances. It certainly did for my son in Aerospace Engineering. Good luck.

Environmental Management and Protection is in the Agriculture school, which overall has lower admission stats (3.69 GPA and 1182 M+CR) than the other colleges at Cal Poly.

I not sure exactly how competitive it is to get into the Environmental Management major; my son got in 2 years ago with a 3.8 and 1920 (but he was given a small merit scholarship which suggests he fell near the top).

SDMomof3...how does your son like the ENVM major? My son was considering it but ended up majoring in Business Admin. instead. He does want to minor in Environmental Studies however.

He actually wanted to transfer for awhile last year -- hated one of his classes in his major (Geology, I think) and thought all of the courses would be like that (said prof just gave them lists of things to memorize). He then talked to some upperclassmen who confirmed that that particular class and prof were awful, and just something to get through.

He seems to like things now, but he's not a kid who shares a lot of what's going on. I don't think he has any idea of what he wants to do with it! I think business with an environment studies minor sounds like a great idea.
