CSU Budget Cuts 2012!! Future transfers get in here!

http://www.scpr.org/blogs/education/...-paint-grim-b/

This is pretty scary.
Specially since I'm going to be attending community college and had planned to transfer to Cal Poly Slo.
Only time will tell what happens...

Any thoughts?

Basically, expect capacity reductions, which means increased selectivity (this appears to already be happening). What would have been a safety if you applied last year may be a match or reach this coming year, for example. So after choosing your safety, find another that is less selective than that school, because your original safety may not be so safe.

CSU is cancelling spring 2013 admissions, which means that the students who would have gone to CSU then will now be competing for fall 2013 admissions places.

For transfer students, use http://www.assist.org to check for other campuses that have your intended major, and to check which courses at your community college(s) are needed.

You may also want to check the Local Admission and Service Areas to see if changing to a different nearby community college may give admission preference to a more desirable or realistic CSU for your academic goals. For example, Cal Poly SLO gives some preference to "students applying from community colleges from San Luis Obispo, southern Monterey, and northern Santa Barbara counties", while students with majority of course work at community colleges in Santa Clara county get preference at San Jose, San Francisco, and East Bay.

I'm from Monterey County and I'm a first gen college student.
Doing my first engineering internship this summer.
I'm a member of the Computer Science and Engineering clubs at my CC and will probably be President of the Engineering club this fall.
If I keep a 3.5+ gpa do I have potential?

Cal Poly SLO has a new transfer profile for fall 2011 entrants indicating that average GPAs for new transfers were around 3.4 or so. But it is likely that capacity reductions will result in the school being more selective in the future.

San Jose transfer thresholds for fall 2012 are listed here:
SJSU Admission
(Note the difference between computer science and software engineering.)

@RoysGoin2College I think you'll be a competitive applicant. Talk to a college counselor at your CC about the Transfer Admission Guarantee program for the UCs/CSUs. Definitely apply to San Jose and Cal Poly, but also apply to some of the UCs as well. Pay extra close attention to deadlines -- there is only a small window of time when they accept TAG applications, and they'll slam the door on you if you are late.

To be honest I'm only interested in Cal Poly Slo and looking at UCBAlumnus' post I feel pretty confident I'll get in. The only UC that appeals to me is UC Santa Barbara because of its location (I love the beach, surfing/swimming/sun).
I have faith in my academic ability and if I do well like I intend to (3.7+gpa, ECs, Internships etc)...

I will apply for:
Stanford
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
UC Santa Barbara
San Jose State

I will update my status here on CC...treat it like a journal almost.
