Good Schools for Applied Physics?

What are some good California schools for physics, preferably applied or engineering physics. So far I know about Stanford but I can't seem to find any other schools that really stand out. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the information. I've added Caltech to my list (definite reach) and will look into UC Santa Barbara
