My backup university if UChicago. I won't reallly mind going there. it's a good school and all, but really, Caltech is the right place for me. I definitely will be able to accept it if I don't get off the waitlist, but a part of me will definitely be disappointed, and probalby for a very long time to come.

When I emailed my counselor after being deferred, I didn't recieve a confirmation back. Then, about a month later, I received an email from him stating that they had not received any updates from me and was wondering if I would still like to be considered for admission. Of course, that does'nt mean that they haven't received your emails, but it might be wise to call and confirm this. The odds are they did receive them, but it's kind of a big deal (presumably) if they haven't. I have also recently had trouble with some of my professors receiving my emails, so when I emailed my counselor with updates after i was waitlisted, I asked if he would confirm that he received my email b/c I didn't want a repeat of what happened when i was deferred.

once agian, good luck to all.

I wrote to Caltech twice...once by mail, sending that official reply form, and once by email. For the email, I got a reply but I didn't get an official confirmation that I'm in the list.. Did you guys get something??

nope, it didn't say in the email i think.. but there are three pages inside of the envelope we get, and one of those pages is the one for additional information you want to send them etc.. well on it it says that you should send all the information till 20 of april

guess i'll have to send them a third email, in case they didn't notice the last two.. i just don't want to be a pain in the ass (you know one of those "did you get my letter? did you get my letter? did you get my letter?" kids )

"you just have to be lucky to get in. '

yeah well, on which college it isn't like that, right? it's getting more and more random )

i didn't send the whole paper, i sent just an abstract, and if they ask me to send them whole, i'll translate it then (i don't know how much will they care about it, cause it's really nothing special, it's just a bit of research about terraformation, planetary habitability, and similar space stuff )

what did you send?

i looked up on facebook, caltech class of 2012, adn there's 240 people registered.. i'm a bit worried, if there will be anybody invited from waitlist :/

240? wow thats like a full class and its hard to believe everyone who accepted a place has a facebook account AND joined the caltech '12 group, which means the actual number of ppl who accepted is a lot greater than 240

i guess you can kiss our chances of acceptance goodbye :/

Description: Everyone who has been accepted into Caltech or is a member of the Caltech community that wants to help our prefrosh around, join this group!

I don't think that all the members are from the Class of 2012 ;-) Remember, this can include other current Caltech students, alumni, random people who wanted to join, and admits who joined but still might attend a different school (I'm a part of the Berkeley '12 group).

for a while one of the "related groups" under caltech class of 2012 was caltech class of 2011

just wanted to point out the irony

well lets hope that most of the ppl in that group arent actually going to wind up in the caltech class of 2012

if something is a related group of anohter group does that mean that a lot of ppl in one group are also in the other?

yeah that was what i was wondering too.. it could be... yet it doesn't need to... i mean it would be logical to put as a related group "mit class of 2012" or "caltech class of 2011" it would be cool if there could be a poll how many of them are actually 100% sure they're gonna attend caltech

of course, not all of them will enroll.. but if i wasn't considering enrolling, i probably wouldn't join the group heheh.. i'm just stunned that so many people can actuallly refuse caltech ( i mean from a number of 675 to 225.... the other 450 people must be insane heheheh )

will they tell us soon after may 1st is there available spots, and how many of us are on the waitlist? and is the "international waitlist" separated from the "domestic waitlist" or we're all in the same poop?

Yes, I think a related group means many people in one group are also in the other.

Also, I think the people in the facebook group are not teh people who have necessarily accepted offers of admission. I joined Caltech, MIT and Harvard's groups so that I could learn more about the schools, see who else who had been accepted, etc., but I'm probably not going to go to Caltech at this point. (I'll leave the group once I've made my final decision...) I expect there are others who are in the group who are in this situation, and also that there are people from caltech class of '11 in the group or something (in MIT's class of 2012 group, there are MIT students who answer questions...) Moral of the story... definitely don't give up hope just because of the size of the Caltech group on facebook! :-P

If they go to Waitlist this year, most people (if they are accepted) should expect to hear from Caltech before May 5th.
This year they accepted more people than usual and did PFW way before others ... They ARE expecting a higher yield, so the chances of using Waitlist this year are lower than in the past.

That said, keep your fingers crossed! I myself got here from the waitlist. And in general, the vast majority of other waitlist admits are super cool and awesome people; they fit in very well. So good luck to all of you!
