| I think they don't have as good a feel for what yield will be this year, compared to past years. I think Caltech is lagging behind in fin aid compared to some of the other top schools that are taking drastic measures (e.g, Harvard) |

| "If they go to Waitlist this year, most people (if they are accepted) should expect to hear from Caltech before May 5th. "
wow, that soon? god, i'm getting nervous! i'm not sure if my new "package" will come so soon.. i didn't realize they're so quick with examining the waitlist, i suppose they don't even look at it till they know all the answers, right? jeez

yeah, well that's what i hope too.. i'm not so involved into whole US education systems since i'm an intl, but an overall impression from the stories here, and everything, is that most of the big schools don't have idea what to expect (i mean look at the MIT waitlist this year.. insaaaane) |

| It does say latest June 15th, I don't see any reason why they should give a false deadline...so don't think that it's necessarily a negative sign if we don't get an answer by May 5th.
Oh and guys, I am wailtisted but I joined that caltech group in facebook...haha...it was just because I wanted to know couple of guys and know more about Caltech...so you can assume that a few in the group aren't accepted and going to Caltech. |

| I don't see the point why universities waitlist so many people if only a fraction will be getting an offer. I mean past 5 years, Caltech waitlisted 100 to 300 people when only 0 to 67 people have gotten in.
Hope they don't choose applicants at random.
And guys, do you think a majority of the waitlist have tried hard to connect with Caltech and made sure they got an edge over the others. I hope out of the 300 or so, only 100 or something become really worthy in the end. |

| Oh, another query? In terms of what you can do to kinda product yourself better, how much is too much? What would be the boundary you shouldn't cross? |

| my friend last year was waitlisted, and he said he accepted a place but didnt send any updates after that. in fact, i dont think he contacted them at all except to confim he wanted to accept a spot on the waitlist. lets hope theres a lot of peple like him this year, because i think at this point they will place a fair amount of emphasis on interest shown |

| Does anybody know how they'll notify us? Will they call us? E-mail us? Send a letter? Will the notify us sooner if they decide to accept us? Will they notify us in a differnet manner if they decide to accept us? |

| GleasSpty, I am not sure but we can expect so...Because if you remember for the regular decision, the ppl who got in got their packages through FedEx...atleast this was the case for international students...and since FedEx is faster, people who get in will be notified sooner....I'm guessing |

| How do you guys think it works?? Can you imagine what exactly is happening in the admissions committee in Caltech? They probably have chosen the most worthy candidates... |

| As far as time goes, not much. Somewhere in the neighborhood of two weeks, less if it takes time for you to get the letter. |

| Hm...yes, I'm pretty sure. I don't remember if that comes with your acceptance envelope, but you should definitely have a fin aid package to look at before deciding. |

| uh, getting more and more nervous... (started with constant refreshing California Institute of Technology again )
good thing is that facebook group now has 216 members, so obviously people which decide to go to other colleges are gone now ... from 216 members round 30 are from the older generations (yeah, i actually did look all of the 216 members on the list to see how many of them do not belong in the class of 2012!).. so that leaves us with a number round 180... and i think it's safe to assume that most of people from US have a facebook account, especially us, teh nerds .... it seems that there will be space for some from the waiting list.
oh god, i'll die if i get a reject now.. it would be so much easier if it all happened month ago
good luck everyone, we will all need it now that the important dayS come closer... |
