I don't think it will be up this early. The letter had to be POSTMARKED by may 1st, so they can't expect everyone's decisionto be received by today. I don't know if they post that info. on their website, but if they do it probably won't be for at least several more days until they can be sure that they received all the decisions.

caltech said last year the waiting list was 290 students...does that mean 290 ppl accepted a place in the waiting list...approx how many waitlist candidates might be there this year?? in this thread, only around 5 or 6 people are talking...does that mean the list is quite small this year.... lol
how popular is cc among students??

"in this thread, only around 5 or 6 people are talking..." yeah well when the caltech descision came out there where 5-6 people more.. but you can't estimate the number, a lot of people don't actually use CC at all, or don't even know it exists.. i think CC is mostly filled with intl students anyway, and there isn't a lot of int students on the waitlist

"The letter had to be POSTMARKED by may 1st, so they can't expect everyone's decisionto be received by today."

ok they are insane, there are some letters the maybe wont arrive for two weeks...

"caltech said last year the waiting list was 290 students..."

they did? it says in the letter that "In the past five years the number of students accepting a place on the Waiting List has ranged from 123 to 291", but not how many people where last year... oh god, i hoped they don't have a big waiting list like MIT

well, i guess we have to be patient a couple of more days, and just see what will happen..

yeah, just wait, but don't dwell on it too much. you guys are going up against incredible odds here which are out of your control, and are no reflection on you as a student or as a person.

for now, don't even think about Caltech it's probably unhealthy, all that numbers analyzing, percentages, postmark dates, etc, etc, and it's best to make sure you're happy and excited about the amazing school you're (probably) going to attend. I mean, no sense letting some facebook group's membercount build you up, just to let you down. right?

...and if it works out, then you're in a very enviable position. If not, no biggie.

foo182, in Caltech's FAQ's it does mention that last year's waiting list is 290 and about 30 students were accepted...we are against huge odds

god, can't believe i missed that hahahah ) dunno, it does sound harsh when you hear that data, but for example in one of those princeton revies books or whatever, you know that "300 best colleges" and similar, they say that caltech has 28% admission rate from the waiting list.. so as it's 17% to get admitted to caltech at the first place, there are bigger chances to be admitted if you get on the waiting list, then at the first place, right? )

"it's probably unhealthy, all that numbers analyzing, percentages, postmark dates, etc, etc"

probably? god it's 100% unhealthy.. i have nightmares again hahahha ))

dunno, we'll just wait and see and hope for the best..

I just hope they take at least someone off the waitlist. Even if I'm not that person, I'll sleep better at night knowing I didn't get off because someone was better than me, as opposed to knowing I dind't get off because I got unlucky with a bad year. As long as I have a chance of getting off, I'l be happy with that.
