| Has anyone else gotten a call from the admissions office yet (or at least heard of someone else who has)? |

| According to the new Tech out today, we have 236 people who have already accepted spots and we don't want any more. We're probably just going to replace those of the 236 who go to another school after getting off another waitlist, which they don't expect to be more than 10. If Stanford and MIT take a lot of people off their waitlists, it might be more. We don't have as much overlap with Harvard but it looks like they are taking a lot of people off of their waitlist.
Waitlist acceptances will probably be very gradual this year, so just be patient. Frankly, the odds are not very good for any of you, so don't get your hopes up too much. Best of luck. |

| Stanford seems to be full, and MIT reports taking approximately 35 off of the waitlist. |

| Quotes from the article in The California Tech, 5/12/08:
"For the third year in a row, Caltech admissions bumped the “ratio” up a notch, marking the 40% women class of 2012 as the most feminine in its history....This year is also the first that the female yield matched the men’s at 35%."
********
"As of Friday, 236 students had accepted admission to Caltech, just six above the target of 230.
However, Bischoff expects that number to drop by at least 8 students as the Ivy Leagues dig deeply into their waiting lists, prompting Caltech to follow suit.
“We may melt more than normal,”
said Bischoff. “We’ve started making offers to some students on the wait list.”
"Harvard will take some 150 to 175 students off of its waiting
list, and Princeton and UPenn will each take up to 90, according to a NY Times article last week. Though Caltech doesn’t share a large overlap with Harvard or Princeton, their waiting lists will likely pull students from MIT and Stanford, bigger competitors to Caltech." |

| hey everybody. It's my first time posting but I have been following the thread for a couple of weeks. I just checked my mail and I got in off the waitlist at Caltech! I was hoping to get off the waitlist for Harvard more though. I didn't really win any awards and all I sent in was a letter expressing my interest. I never contacted my admissions officer, though I got a call from her two days ago asking if I was still interested. I'm surprised because I don't really have high SAT's or win any awards, so I guess there's still hope for everyone. Didn't get a call or email, just the admit packet. |

| @cookiemon, berkeley is a great choice. I agree, Caltech can be too small
@pooth416, JACKPOT, haha..congrats, it doesn't always boil down to academics. You must be choosing Caltech... |
