The cefcu page seems to imply that with no credit history and no income one can get a credit card as long as they are an undergrad. Considering that most prefrosh (myself included) are in this position, does anyone have any anecdotes about getting a credit card from the credit union?

yes, they do, but with zero credit history it's more or less a crap shoot. Most of my friends (again, myself included) got declined

My son got a credit through cefu in April or May of 2009. However, for those students looking to get a credit card now, you might find it much more difficult due to the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act. While I am not sure when the requirements for a co-signer & the ability to pay goes in to effect for students under 24, banks and credit unions are probably beginning to tighten up now as some of the provisions have gone into effect.

I don't know how things have changed given the current state of the economy, but I was able to get a credit card from CEFCU with only a year of history in the US (I'm an international student) and without a co-signer. If they trusted me, you probably have a good chance.
