Any students at Caltech from Oxy?

Was wondering how the 3+2 program is and if anyone from Oxy has come to Caltech.

Son will consider Oxy but the problem is that they don't have a CS major.

Sadly son does not have the GPA for Caltech.

GPA really doesn't matter much to Caltech admissions. It's more a matter of showing an ability to do math and science as well as a liking for it.

I would recommend you call the admissions office and just ask them about the 3+2 program, since that program is slightly rare for people to be in.

Thank you Kami,

He does have an affinity for Math Science and is also involved in Programming which is self taught. Would that help? His SAT 2 scores for Math and Physics are perfect. You think its worth a shot?

I don't know that I agree with kamikazewave. Caltech admissions almost certainly wants not only to know that their admits have ability in math and science but also an ability to handle a heavy workload well... something that is typically indicated by GPA.

I'm pretty sure that GPA (especially grades in math and science) matter a LOT to admissions. I encourage you to contact admissions yourself though, pixeljig.

Yes, I'm pretty sure there are some students with at 3.5 high school gpa. However, there aren't many, and you have to have exceptional extracurricular activities as well as a burning passion for math and science to make up for it.

I would also guess most of those with a 3.5 GPA have a 4.0 or close to it in math/science subjects and their lower grades are in humanities, etc.
