Another Dilemma Thread : CSULB vs UCI

Credits to junshik's thread: Dilemma - UCSD vs UCI.

CSULB major : pre-nursing / / UCI major : Undecided/Undeclared

I actually applied to UCI with a Nursing Science major and had to do a supplemental application for their Nursing Sciences school but it was rejected.

Me:
- Not qualified for grants; didn't apply for FAFSA because I can't.
- Loan dependent for first year (maybe)
- Planning to become a Registered Nurse (or even Nurse Practitioner)
- *Thinking* of going to grad school.

Colleges:
- Fees = CSULB : 13k~14k // UCI : 18k~19k ( Commuter)
- Distance = UCI is closer to home ( Sadly, lol )
- Activities = I believe UCI has more as well?
- More friends going to UCI ( Majority suggested UCI as well because of more undergraduate research opportunities )

Basically my problem is if I go CSULB, I (think) I'm jump starting my "career" by being in the pre-nursing major already. I would also finish my studies faster at a cheaper price. If I go to UCI, however, I plan to pursue Bio Sci as my major AND THEN transfer to their med school (or UCLA's med school; no guarantees though). I heard CSULB is also known to have a high NCLEX passing rate among their students.

Other factors that I'm also considering are number of clubs, work study opportunities, and amount of loan.

I'm leaning towards UCI because I didn't think I'd get accepted but I did (my first choice school too). My SAT was apple bottom jeans low (1480) but my GPA, I'm guessing, outweighed it (3.86 uw). Study ethics.. hm, I definitely study like crazy before a test; make an effort to go to the library everyday after school, do homework everyday, etc.

My family have always always nailed into my head that I must must must get into a UC school, but now, whenever I ask them whether I should go to UCI or CSULB, they say CSULB just because it's cheaper lawls.

" No unbiased opinions " too please ;(

I would assume UC Irvine is better. Heck, they have their own hospital . For something like nursing, I would definitely check out UC Irvine.

Nursing is different from doctor. Bio sci = science. Nursing = professional schooling. Nursing will set you up with a career after you graduate. Bio sci will prepare you for med school. Personally, I don't think the nursing program is worth at UCI. They have to take g-chem, o-chem, and 2 years of bio. A lot of useless classes, but fullfills the classes for med school. Cal state you don't have to take those classes and jump on to the more practical courses that will train you to become a nurse.
