wait how does that work?

so I've been looking around for info on UBC and i confused myself on the grades they look at. I know that they only look at your academic classes but some other threads made it sound like they only look at your grades for specific classes depending on your major...is there any truth to that?

They Look at your top 5 or 6 grade 12 credits, and yes, if you're applying to the faculty of science for example, they will look at physics, chemistry or biology + English, Pre-calculus, and possibly another credit of your choice. They will also look at your grade 11 marks for said courses as well, but they're only allowed to admit based on your top 5-6 credit grade 12 average, keep that in mind. My understanding, is that they'll only consider grade 11 marks if you're a borderline applicant, or applying for major scholarships.

They will put more enphasis on your last few year, but they will look for a trend. And also, they will ask for a certain general average grade and a certain specific average (depending on your major). Usually, the criteria for the general one are lower than the specific one.

They look at 4 provincially examinable courses including english 12. the other three depend on the faculty you are applying to. Like I applied for engineering and they will look at physics, math chemistry and english for me.Your grade 11 marks are important for making your average seem stronger. But grade 12 marks are the ones that matter the most. And you will have to self report them this march if you are applying to UBC this year.
