Medical Genetics

Does anyone have information on medical genetics? I was thinking of maybe doing a combined Peds/MG residency. Is it hard to secure a position (doesn't seem like there is much demand)? Thanks.

I wasn't personally aware of a specialty known as medical genetics. However, medical genetics can be pursued via research in any specialty more or less.

I've heard medical genetics is one of the lowest paid specialties. I can't say how competitive it is to match into it because there are so few spots.

MG compensation in terms of billing...low, but there's a multiple different opportunities in terms of research, some public health considerations and directing labs.

The demand...almost by definition you're going to be tied to an academic setting - more than likely at a children's hospital.

There's not a whole lot of competition for the spots, because not a lot of people know about it, or they assume they need to peds (most geneticists do pediatrics, but it's by no means an absolute requirement), or they're simply not interested.
