Can a foolish kid go to Carleton?

I am a very very bad student for my rank in high school was like 241/250 (GPA 2.1). But my essay is perfect with my true personality and philosophy, and got great supports from professors. They wrote amazing recommendations for me. Anyone believe even a kid like me has a chance? Email me any idea! Thanks!!

I'm going to be completely honest: Probably not.

Even if you had a perfect score on the SAT....with a GPA and rank like that, it's very unlikely.

Sorry bro....... there's always grad school.

Hi Tootsie ... reverse roles and put yourself on the admissions committee of Carleton. We have this interesting kid with 1400 SAT and a terrible class rank and a kid with a 1400 SAT who is 25/240 ... what about the application of the kid with a terrible class rank makes me want to pass over all the other kids with similar scores who did well in HS? If you've got a reason for Carleton to pass over all these other kids you've got a chance ... if your case is give me a chance I can do it the school will probably go for a kid who already has shown they can do it.

Tootsie,

I'm the mom of a lazy, brilliant student. SAT = 800V 1680M 780W and not a great GPA - partly due to laziness, and partly due to the fact that he chose not to "jump through the hoops." He's now wishing he had sucked it up and done the "mindless" assignments he was supposed to do to get the A.

The first step to change is to recognize where you are!! It sounds like you're there. Whatever college you end up attending - I'm cerain you will work hard to make up for lost time, and shine like the bright star you are!! Then, you'll have glowing recommendations for grad. school and you will have many choices.

Good luck to you. And, yes, I believe you should try to convince a Carleton admissions officer that you made mistakes in the past - and to give you a chance...this is a possibility if you have a great essay and glowing teacher recs. Don't give up!
