Volunteer/Community service: Started a volunteer group that helps educate the elderly about technology and computer security. Not a large endeavor, not that many spent volunteering.
Summer Activities: Spent with family and friends.
Essays: I’d consider these to be a strength of mine.
Teacher Recommendation: Teachers saw talent and hard work in and out of their classes.
Counselor Rec: Knew my counselor quite well, strong recommendation.
Interview: No interview.
State (if domestic applicant): Arizona
School Type: Public
Hooks (URM, first generation college,
etc.): Zip. Zilch.
Strengths: Essays, GPA, and extracurriculars
Weaknesses: Work and volunteering time — while my volunteering was interesting, it was minimal timewise.
Why you think you were accepted/
waitlisted/rejected: I think my essays are what helped me most. I think my supplement, while short, reflected the kind of student they were looking for (I found this from talking to others who go there after being accepted, what they’ve said is best about the school and matters most to them is almost to the word what I showed about myself. I feel very fortunate, and also excited that this school could in fact be a better fit than I first anticipated).
Where else were you accepted/
waitlisted/rejected: Accepted UArizona Honors, Hampshire, Ursinus, Grinnell. Still waiting on Brown, Haverford, Vassar, and Oberlin.
So far, Carleton is tied for cost of attendance with Grinnell and is looking to be my frontrunner. Very excited by the prospect of going there next fall
