My S is planning to apply too. I loved the look and feel of the campus when we visited.

So far

Everything we thought we hoped Carleton would be from our first visit has come to pass. One son is a freshman and off to a great start. The whole process of selecting, applying and considering and then going and getting started that takes up September to September of senior year to freshman year was just a much more pleasant and buttoned down experience with Carleton than any other school we considered with our two sons. I am not in the habit of praising very many institutions, but this is a wonderful place.

That's the feeling I got from the place too. I think it's my son's first choice but he doesn't want to rank until he knows where he's accepted--wise of him I think. More than any of the other (20 in all) colleges we visited, it felt intensely intellectual, but warm and calm at the same time. I expect he'd have a soft landing there.

We got our letter in the mail today. My D was accepted to Taste of Carleton. I believe 500 or so invitations to apply were sent out and only 50-60 kids got selected. Did anyone hear the same?

oh sorry! basically its an all-expense paid overnight campus visit of Carleton on Nov 2-4 where you visit classes, tour campus, stay with current student, and interview w/member of Admissions office.

Taste of Carleton

The Taste of Carleton, a special campus visit opportunity November 2-4, 2006, for high school seniors from traditionally under-represented groups within higher education. These under-represented groups include students of color, first generation students, or low-income students who are Pell Grant eligible. The Taste of Carleton or “TOC” event is designed to give students a flavor of college life at Carleton College, one of the US News and World Report’s top ten national liberal arts colleges. While on campus, students will attend classes, interview with the Admissionsstaff, stay with student hosts, and eat great food at a barbeque put together by our multicultural organizations. We will select students from these groups who are academically strong. Selected students will contribute $50; Carleton will cover the rest of their costs – including airfare, transportation to and from campus, meals and lodging – throughout the visit.
