Your stats are good but Carleton was really hard to get into this year. It sounds like that will be the case next year as well. You might get in and you might not.

I think you have a good shot, however Carleton has been harder and harder to get into lately. Sometimes the decisions seem hard to understand. As an alum, I believe that is probably because the school really wants "fit". They probably put lots of weight on the essays. Perhaps I'd read a book about writing good college essays, and maybe try to understand more about Carleton. Maybe read or skim a book about Carleton or spends loads of time surfing the Carleton web site.

For example, read the thread below. The guy who started the thread seems like a perfectly good guy, but loads of people questioned his "fit" and they did so for good reasons.

chance a moron

If anything else, your EC's seem weak. Why'd you quit Jazz band? Look for some good summer opportunities perhaps. Perhaps do a play or some other activities next year in High School if you can.

To bring it back to a positive note, you said that you are Hispanic. That helps a great deal with the diversity factor.

I'd say a hospital internship is a pretty good EC... but I see what they mean about ECs. Have you been doing any sort of sport?

To Jack63:
Pretty much I quit Jazz Band because I didn't have enough electives to take it during my sophomore year and after that I didn't have interest in it anymore. I'm aware that my EC's are very weak and I regret not taking many during my high school career. Next year I plan on joining a couple of clubs and just hope it's not too late.

And I was wondering what you think I should write about in my essay. I am tossing about a couple of essay topics and i have 3 that I am considering writing.
1. An essay on why I would like to have a lunch with Jackie Robinson (I'm aware he's dead). I would write about how, as a fan of baseball, I consider him a legend among the game. Then I would write about how, as a minority, his venture into the white game of baseball was extremely courageous and how the segregation and ultimate resistance of African Americans can resemble the colonial resistance to the British in the 18th century.

2. I have Chron's disease (it's pretty much just stomach and intestine inflamation) so I would write about how that's affected my high school career. If I stressed too much my stomach would begin to hurt and I lived with it a year before I went and got medical attention for it.

3. One of the common application topics was something along the lines of "What sort of diversity would you bring to the college you are applying to." I'd write about my diverse interest in music and my love and knowledge for sports is quite uncommon amongst teens. I didn't play on any of my school's teams because my school is kind of a powerhouse of sports in my city so I didn't think I could make it. But I really wish I did try out for baseball as a freshman.

I was leaning towards number 1 but a friend of mine said that everyone does an essay like that and I wouldn't stick out by writing that essay.
