A question about Carleton...

Ok so I visited Carleton yesterday and I really liked it. The only thing is, although it seems like there is a lot to do on campus, is there really any way to just let loose and party at all? I mean it is such a small school and there are no frats so...how's the party scene (if there is one)?

Party-wise, there's pretty much always a few decent options on Friday and Saturday nights. Campus Activities or the Social Programming Board sponsor events most weekends like theme parties or post-Ebony dances. With these, there's no open drinking allowed at the events, so people usually pre-game with friends at parties in the dorms or houses. Most RAs aren't total buzzkills and won't bust up parties unless they're getting out of control or during quiet hours, so there's a good amount of partying in the dorms compared with at some other schools where the residential staff take pride in ruining fun. On Friday and Saturday nights there's usually several upperclassmen houses/apartments (both on- and off-campus) throwing parties, and these are not usually busted by police/security/ResLife staff (again, unless things are way too loud or someone needs medical attention). With the house parties in particular there are usually a lot of drinking games (flip cup, Beirut are popular), while dorm parties are more likely to be themed and smaller. Progressives (basically traveling parties, numerous people host stops and people take a drink at each stop, typically themed or for a certain major/club) are verboten but popular and a lot of fun.

I think dietcokewithlime gave a good answer.

If a party scene is one of your criteria for college, I think you will find it at 99.9% of colleges and universities, including Carleton. Likewise, for those who are not into the party scene, there are many, many other things to do.
