Well it might be seen as more dull than other schools since there are some people who don't leave their rooms or the library much - this could be due to them having a lot of work and/or just being people who don't leave their room
Michigan is a big state school and being honest is probably less dull than Carnegie Mellon - but people don't usually go to CMU in anticipation of parties and stuff. If you go to cmu go with an open mind and you'll probably find fun - it might not be as much fun as your friends at other schools but you can still have a good time.
