Too bad Pittsburgh is almost always cold.
Not if you're originally from an area that actually has weather.

Trust me, I've lived in many places, some of which had freezing conditions. I never can get used to the cold. It's just not in my system, I should probably move to the Caribbean actually. Too bad there's no decent colleges there...

So I really don't think you need to worry about finding stuff to do. I am pretty social and I have managed to go out partying at least once a weekend every weekend. Now I don't know what your feeling are on this, but you might want to consider greek life. I really wasn't thinking about it when I came in, but I'm probably going to pledge next year. It is kind of where most of the social people on campus are. There isn't pressure to go greek if you are social, you just notice that a lot of your friend will be going greek. At least take those first few weeks to walk around and see if you like anything.

Oh and hey! my grandfather graduated with a PhD in Sugar Cane Chemistry from the University of Havana. It may be communist now, but I'd like to see the rankings for sugar cane chemistry in the US. Where are Harvard and Stanford now? bahaha!

As a girl who is far from the "nerdy" appearance, I would hope there are some parties, otherwise i'm going to be bored out of my mind. =/

There are fraternity and sorority parties, as well as just normal parties hosted by people for large groups of friends. Worst case scenario you try to get into some Pitt parties down in Oakland.

Alternatively, make friends with lots of business majors. I know they tend to get out a lot more than engineers/CS.

there are parties its just that you will have to look for them. a lot of them are off-campus on streets such as atwood or beeler.

Oh and everyone says pitt has an amazing party scene. well it is more visible than cmu but its not THAT great. theres usually only like one or two parties a night at pitt. i wouldnt call that crazy like penn state or wvu or san diego state where the entire street is one big huge party.

People tend to forget about the like, three other colleges when they think of CMU. We arent just CS and CIT. There is also, the College of Fine Arts (including lots of pretty music/theater majors, artsy design and/or art majors as well as suicidal architecture majors), College of Science (in general pretty normal...ish) and Tepper (*shiver* Business majors scare me...). And no matter how weird or dorky the general population is, there are always outliers. Hell, one of the hottest guys I know is in CS!

And you definitely do NOT have to go Greek to party. I have partied almost every weekend this year and have only been to ONE greek event, and that was only because it was a friend's birthday.
