I emailed a personal note last year explaining I was a CMU parent. I think it really depends on the amount of room they have at the Falcon. The priority is for industry people to attend.
My daughter went ot the CMU NYC showcase but my understanding was that those in the showcase could invite guests. Her friend at CAP had a friend in the showcase who invited him and my D. Industry professionals are the priority and I don't think the general public can necessarily attend but the students involved do invite family and friends, from what I understood.
The Showcases are not open to the public. The purpose of the event is to introduce the seniors to the industry professionals. Obviously if the theatre is filled with people who are not involved with film, television, or commercial interests, it defeats the purpose. However, parents of CMU drama students as well as invited friends are allowed to attend with a reservation if room is available.
In the past a few actors have switched in to MT, but that hasent happened this year (class of 09), actors can however audition and get into the musicals, one of the main characters in Urinetown (this years musical) was an actor. i would talk to your professors at the begining of the year to see if its an opition, or if you can take some dance/voice classes and still retain acting status (much more likely).
