Audition Requirements

Does anyone know if there is a time or length limit on the audition songs? CMU's website does not list any (in contrast to monologues where a time limit is stated). I have heard that in fact songs must be limited to 28 bars each this year. Anyone who has auditioned this year (or anyone else) know the scoop? Thanks!

For CMU, because it says "two songs" with no time limit given, my suggestion is to prepare 32 bar cuts. I can't see singing an entire song anywhere because it often would be too long and also have repeats that do not need to be heard. So, a verse, chorus and bridge would be a good excerpt. Pretty much a 32 bar cut is the idea. My D auditioned there two years ago and I can't recall what she did, but I really think it likely was a 32 bar cut of her songs. If it was a whole song, I'm sure she kept each to under 1 1/2 min. My advice is to go with 32 bars or under 1 1/2 min. per song.

I just auditioned yesterday at CMU and the requirements are a 32 bar ballad and a 32 bar up-tempo. You should also have at least two extra songs with you because I was asked to sing a third song (someone told me that the website said to prepare four songs but I never saw that!) Hope this helps good luck!
