Admissions Questions

I'm not sure if there is a specific thread for this, I've looked and can't find it. If you know the link, put it here and I'll delete this thread if I can.

I tried looking at Carnegie Mellons website, but I couldn't find it.

This may be a stupid question, but do I need to be accepted academically to be able to attend for Musical Theatre? I'm guessing yes. Where can I find the requirements on the dang site?

I get confused when the Fine Arts and the Universities have two different websites...

Thank you so much if you can answer.

~Zach

There is a "single" admissions process at Carnegie Mellon but based on information given to us at an info session when my daughter auditioned last year, the audition is weighted 80 - 90% for admissions purposes. Academics are weighted only 10 - 20% and the academic standards which must be met for admission to the MT program are considerably relaxed from the standards required for admission to traditional academic programs there. As was stated by an assistant dean of admissions from the university, "We don't expect our engineering students to be able to sing and act and we don't expect out MT students to have the same gpa, test scores and high school courses as our engineering students." It was made pretty clear that if the drama department wants you, you are in unless you were a total screw up/ slacker academically in high school which would then be viewed as indicative of not being able to handle the rigors of a demanding BFA program.

You won't find this posted on the website. If memory serves me right, I think the only thing you will find is a chart of which standardized tests must be taken based on the department to which you are applying and for the drama department, you need only the SAT I.
