While the deadline to apply is indeed May 1, applicants can and do hear of admissions decisions before then on a rolling basis. Thus, cawrd's D could likely hear very soon.

One of my students last year applied to CMU pre college in mid Feb. and heard back during the first week of April, although by then had put down her deposit as required on Northwestern Cherubs, which is a similar scenario with one of my students this year who has put down the required deposit at Cherubs before the decision from CMU has come.

I called today to double check on my daughter's status. The admissions person said my D. acceptance letter was sent out on the 31st. You probably will get yours shorty.

oh thank god! I am freaking out about this letter, I hope it comes whether it's a yes or no! I was accpeted into the emerson musical theatre program, and they need to know by May 1st, if I want to accept the offer, or decline it. So I hope CMU comes before May 1st haaha! I did not take the PSATS so would I not be accpeted because I did not send in my scores?

I think most people who apply to CMU's summer program in a timely manner get in. It's a misconception, I think, to assume admission is highly selective. Most kids who send their stuff in early enough get in, I think. That said, it's an excellent program and it's astounding how many really talented kids gather there every summer. My D found the experience invaluable.

Singactglass, you may want to just call them and see that all of your paperwork is in and if they have reviewed it. My D. did happen to take the SAT back in the fall, but I don't get the feeling if you hadn't already taken the test that you wouldn't get in.

NMR - I agree with you. I don't think the summer program is hard to get in to. I think all the paperwork just needs to be in on time. I'm hoping my D. will walk away from it with a clear understanding of a BFA program.

Just one more data point. We just found out that my D got accepted to CMU pre-college drama (MT) program. She hasn't taken the SAT yet (will do soon). Now we can go ahead and start looking for flights to Pittsburgh (coming all the way from Santiago, Chile).

My daughter received her acceptance to the CMU summer program this past weekend and she is very excited to go. After some conversation, she had originally applied under the DRAMA section, not Musical Theater. But it appears that she can still opt for Musical Theater, and she's thinking she wants to do that. I called the school and the person on the phone said that was fine, but for some reason I'm still unsure, the person just didn't completely inspire confidence. An earlier poster explained the difference in the two programs, but I just wondered if anyone knew about making the change now after being accepted. Thanks. Oh and thanks to singactglass, I'll show my daughter the facebook link!

HSN, I don't think it's a problem at all. This is a non audition program, so kids can pretty much opt for which track they want. There is usually three times (at least) as many MTs as there are actors, by the way, so she will be in good company if she switches over. The basic difference in the MT and acting track is that (obviously) MTs take ballet and jazz and singing classes and actors take movement and voice for the stage. They all take Styles (Shakespeare), Acting, Audition and Drama Lit, as well as playwriting and directing, if they choose. But she can, I think, switch with NO problem. Just fill out the forms for Musical Theater and return them. Done!

Thanks so much NotMamaRose. I think you were the earlier poster who originally explained the difference between the two tracks and gave out great info about the program in general. She is beyond thrilled to be going and I am beyond thrilled for her. And relieved that, for this summer anyway, the wait is over and we know what she'll be doing!

HSN, she is going to love it. If you want to talk more specifically, just PM me. I realized yesterday that I still have a print out of my D's precollege schedule on my desk at work, so I can give you a very specific idea of what your child will experience. (Warning: a lot of quite well-to-do kids come to this program with seemingly unlimited amounts of cash to spend, so if you are not in this group -- and we are not! -- prepare your kid ahead of time to know she has only a certain amount to spend. Otherwise, you may get a panicked call halfway through saying "I am out of money.")
