My son has the same fee waived thing and the admission score report thing and I too was wondering where our check is??? Very weird and probably of no consequence whatsoever in the scheme of things, but it sure makes me play the whole "head game" even more

To all of you who are looking at the CMU website to learn the status, are you looking at the "Where Am I in the Process" site? My D's account doesn't seem to "say" anything other than all the regular information.

tom, it should have come by snail mail in paperwork from CMU after they received and inputted your application. They give you a sheet that says how to use the "Where Am I In the Process" web site and at the bottom, lists an ID# that you need to use in communication with CMU.

So, do we know how many people were called so far? How many acceptances do they make? Thanks

No Nash24, don't think we do. A previous posted said 9 boys in acting, 7 girls in acting and 9 musical theatre (total I think)...but not sure if that is for sure or accurate...just what was posted. Previous posts also indicate a call Monday night and then one again last night for acting...so who knows. I just wish we could know for sure (pretty sure since no call)...my son is just treating it as a no and moving on.

If they want 25 in program, I assume they have to extend acceptances to at least 35-40 so they get their deisired number. Most of these kids will be accepted to other schools so they cannot all accept CMU.

OK, folks, here is the word from CMU admissions about the "file pulled" stuff on the online tracker. In a nutshell, it does NOT give a person any indication of what the likely final outcome will be, and is the result of whether a computer automatically "pulled" a file (whatever that means) or whether a human is handling it. Read here:

Please rest assured that the "file pulled" notation on the Where Am I in the
Process page is just triggered by an internal processing code. It has no
correlation to the ultimate decision on a student's file. Some students
have the code, and others do not, simply because some students have files
that are automatically pulled by the computer (triggering the code), whereas
other files are pulled by hand (these students would not have a code).
Regardless of how a file is "pulled for review," it is reviewed in the same
way, and there is no significance to whether a file is pulled by hand or by
the computer. Every applicant's file is pulled at one point or another!

Just thought I would put all our minds at rest ... as if that was possible!!!!

Nash - I don't recall CMU stating how many places they offered over their ideal yield. What I do know is U of Mich calculated they would offer 23 spots to yield 20. U of Mich said very few turned them down so that is what worked for them. My guess is this would be very similar to CMU so I think your estimate is rather high.

I may have already said this, but what I've seen from posts from last year calls for acceptance were made over the course of about a week or two (I don't know why). This year some were called on monday, another yesterday, so judging by this they may still call more people...at least this gives me some hope!!

Nash,

CMU's BFA program is one that does NOT accept more applicants than slots available in order to yield the number they want in the program. This differs from most programs. CMU, for one thing, is rather a small program, and for another thing, many who get the offer take it and so they don't want to end up with too many. So, CMU puts out offers to the EXACT number they plan to yield (slots available). However, they do have what is called a Priority Waitlist for CMU's BFA program and those kids are notified around April 1 of being on this list (my kid got this). If a slot opens up because someone declines the offer from CMU, then CMU goes to fill it from this short Priority Waitlist.
